🏥 About CMC Vellore
Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore is one of India's finest and most distinguished medical institutions, founded in 1900 by Dr. Ida Sophia Scudder — an American missionary doctor who was moved to dedicate her life to Indian women's healthcare. What began as a one-room clinic in Vellore has grown into a world-class medical institution with global recognition.
CMC is affiliated with Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University and recognised by the National Medical Commission (NMC). Despite being a private institution, CMC consistently ranks at par with India's top government medical colleges — NIRF #3 in Medical (2025) — through sheer quality of research, patient care and teaching.
The college's motto — "Not to be ministered unto, but to minister" — reflects its deep commitment to service-oriented medicine. CMC has pioneering contributions in cardiology, nephrology, reconstructive surgery, stem cell biology, infectious diseases, hepatology, and public health. Its alumni hold leadership positions in top hospitals and research institutions worldwide.
